五年前绿日乐队发行了专辑《American Idiot》使得乐队上升到了一个全新的高度，如今，乐队的新专辑的制作已经进入尾声，专辑取名为《21st Century Breakdown》。Billboard网站预先评述了绿日新专辑的六首新歌。新专辑的具体发行日期初定为今年五月，由环球华纳公司发行。

　　这一次绿日乐队的新专辑《21st Century Breakdown》将首次采取概念专辑的形式，整张专辑分为三幕，分别为：《Heroes and Cons》，《Charlatans & Saints》和《Horseshoes & Handgrenades》，新专辑比起乐队的上一张专辑《American Idiot》在内容方面减少了很多关于政治方面的评判，而是更多的将题材放在了一些社会性的问题上，例如宗教、战争和爱。

　　专辑将以同名曲《21st Century Breakdown》作为开篇，在一段美妙的旋律过门之后，便可以听到熟悉的三和弦段落和主唱比利·乔·阿姆斯特朗关于政治方面的看法：“我这一代一无所有，我也从没想成为一名工人阶级的英雄……”这首歌在中间的段落中采用的更猛烈的吉他和鼓，最后以较为缓和的经典摇滚方式结束。

　　下一首的《Know Your Enemy》也是采取了类似的猛烈而好听的摇滚“要求革命”，而《Before the Lobotomy》则以一段原声吉他扫播为过门后进入了猛烈的朋克三和弦，而歌词则是采用了一种“反感”的态度：“我并没有呆若木鸡，我只是搞砸了……”

　　《March of the Dogs》则是绿日乐队这张专辑中结构最为复杂的一首作品，作品在综合了很多创意后才最终定夺，全歌不断的变化着回复段落(riff)，歌词内容讲述了一条受到了虐待的狗，乐队主唱阿姆斯特朗在歌中唱到：“塞壬(Siren希腊神话中女人面孔鸟身的海妖，常用歌声诱惑过路的航海者而使航船触礁沉没)的堕落将会导致整个的信仰狂热。”

　　《Restless Heart Syndrome》则首次突破了乐队的传统风格：整曲的三分钟里以中速的钢琴伴奏为背景，阿姆斯特朗采用假声进行演唱。专辑的最后一首曲目《21 Guns》也同样采用了原声吉他配合着合声，整曲充满了一种回荡的气氛。
